Beach cleanup with Arch Anglers

What do a decomposing boom box, a rusty skillet, and a LOT of beer bottles have in common? All are items we cleaned up from Puget Sound beaches at Picnic Point and Richmond Beach, along with a few unsavory items we won't list on this family-friendly blog. Arch Anglers organized the cleanup, and a few hardy souls showed up last Saturday to partake. Ryan, owner and head guide (and finder of the boom box), fed us coffee and sandwiches, and left with a truck-full of trash and recyclables. We saw sea-run cutts feeding within easy casting distance, so we'll be back to one or both spots soon.

Orca Network

What do orca whales and fishermen have in common? They both enjoy catching salmon. While lots anglers practice catch and release, Orca whales do not. In fact, 80% of their diet consists of chinook salmon. The native chinook population, which has been decimated on the Columbia and Snake River sytems in Washington State, has a direct effect in the decline of the orca population in the Pacific Northwest. If you are interested in learning more, please visit the Orca Network (www.orcanetwork.org).
